On the Road with the Grape Guy

On the Road with the Grape Guy is a on-going feature that follows me from event to event ... I post my thoughts, feelings and reviews of what happened and what I tasted ... basically it is here that I review the events I attend and the things that thrilled me.

Report from: Joseph Carr Wine Tasting & Dinner

03 Jan 2015

(August 27, 2014) ...  This evening we meet with one Joseph Carr, the man who started the very popular Josh Cellars, which was named after his father -  the nickname that was given to him during his stock car racing days.  From the press release, "Growers that I call friends all helped craft our first vintage of Josh Cellars, a 'winemaker's wine' we first made for each other.  Now sourcing from vineyards across the Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, Mendocino County and the Central Coast of California, we make wines for your friends and family that honour that first vintage, rich and complex, but always approachable."  Tonight we see if Joseph Carr can live up to his mission statement all while having a lovely dinner at Biff's Bistro and listening to the man tell his stories.

Report from: Bollinger Champagne Tasting

31 Dec 2014

(November 4, 2014) ... Today I am lucky enough to find myself at a drop in tasting at the King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto for the iconic Champagne producer Bollinger ... the wine of choice of 007.  I met with Guy de Rivoire, Commercial Director for Bollinger Champagne, who along with their agent Hanna & Sons, presented in a relaxed walk around style 3 different wines in the Bollinger line.  I got a chance to sit down with Guy at the bar and discuss Champagne and Bollinger in particular.

First wine was the Bollinger Special Cuvee ... Click here to read the notes and info I gleaned.
